How do you view challenge and failure?
Do you see challenge and failure as saying something about your worth and thus try to avoid them, or do you see challenge and failure as opportunities to learn and grow, even the best ways to learn and grow?
How do you see others when they disagree with you?
Do you see their disagreement as a threat against you, your role, or your intelligence and capabilities, or do you see their disagreement as being essential for improving your thinking and decision making?
How do you see risk?
Do you see risk as something to avoid, or do you see risk as being essential for you to reach your dreams, goals, and ambitions?
How do you see others?
Do you see others as objects, there for you to use and to do your bidding; or do you see others as people, and value them as such?
Put these all together and we get the following:
Comparing Person A with Person B, who do you think is more likely to be a positive influence in your life?
The answer is probably crystal clear: Person B.
What can we learn from this? How we see the situations we encounter shapes our ability to be a positive influence, someone that others want to follow.
Here is the kicker, according to over 3,000 people who have taken my mindset assessment, only 5% of people consistently see their world like Person B. This suggests that most of us are placing a limit on our influence because we do not see our world as optimally as we can.
How to See Your World Better
I have good news: Improving our mindsets and associated perspectives is not as daunting as it may sound. There are two primary things that we can do to improve our mindsets.
First, we need to awaken to both the mindsets we have, and the mindsets we want to have. The problem with this is that most people do not have the knowledge or language to do this. They are hard pressed to identify any specific mindsets, let alone what they have or what they want to have.
So, I have made this easy for you and have put together this free personal mindset assessment:
This will help awaken you to your mindsets and the most optimal mindsets to have based upon 30+ years of research. And, it will direct you in actions you can take to go from where you are now to where you want to be.
Second, we need to engage in small, consistent actions aligned with the most optimal mindsets. In other words, we need to practice. Changing our mindsets and associated perspectives is essentially like learning how to count to 10 in a different language. If you get the basics and practice a little bit every day, in no time the numbers in the different language start coming quite naturally to you.
The following lists will give you some of these small consistent actions that can help you shift and upgrade your mindsets:
The idea is simple: Improve your lenses, improve your influence.
